What Colour do you need????

You Need Some Orange in Your Life

Orange will make you feel open, lively, and artistic.

And with a little orange, you will project an aura of friendliness.

If you want bolder experiences, you've got to get a little orange in your life!

For extra punch: Combine orange with red or yellow

The downside of orange: It's too powerful and unusual for some people to deal with

The consequences of more orange in your life:

You will become more creative in almost every aspect of your life

You will find humor in the most serious and dismal situations

You will feel like life is exciting, even when you're doing ordinary things

What A Week!!!!!!

What a week, I really wanted to journal this week of great things.
Time moves very quickly and to just enjoy the moments of greatness and how truly wonderful the experiences have been.
  • Meeting Carly and to enjoy hearing about her journey with her photographic exhibition.
  • Meeting Sharon Muir and understanding her love for Colour over 2 days at a workshop with a great bunch of ladies.
  • Brigalow just blew me away with being presented with the Art Scholarship of $1000 & encouragement for Emerging Artist . To enjoy the night with friends & artists from BAVA was wonderful. Thankyou to you all for your support & kind words. I really appreciate your emails & phone calls to congratulate me. Looking forward to enjoying the award.
  • Then to have my nephew born & to be there to support my sister after concerns & 10 days of check ups .
  • To have the storm come through and leave the tree down in it's travels, so pleased the house didn't get damaged.
  • Friday is another day - I need photo's from my Mum & Dad who have just come home after travelling around in WA. The children & I travelled to Rocky to pick them up -I'll post them next week.
  • I've been winding down the last two days, the kids & I are chilling out at home, our home has been neglected over the last 2 weeks- so it was great to get in and do some spring cleaning. Ready for a new week. Bring it on! Where did October go.......

Tree down in Wild Storm @ Home.

Thursday evening's storm came up pretty fast, and so did the wind.
it took out our Karajon (not sure of spelling) the tree has been here for 20 years.
It came down in front of the house & scared the s#^% out of all us at home here.
If you can see the palm tree in the photo, it actually broke the top part of the tree off, so it saved the house for being damaged. It was unreal. Even the rain came down in such a strange way.
The good from this, was that we got rain and the creek behind our home is running & the grass around our home is so green. (Photo's taken Friday morning.)
Guess what we will be doing on Monday after Greg has finished his weekend of day shift!!

"COLOUR" Workshop with Flying Art Tutor Sharon Muir.

Sharon is a professional practicing artist with two decades of experience in the visual arts. As an art educator she has worked in a range of educational institutions, facilitated numerous community art projects and is currently part of the Flying Arts team, touring outback QLD and NSW. She works as a freelance workshop tutor, traveling throughout Australia, teaching a spectrum of subjects and skills. She is based in Mullumbimby in northern NSW and regularly
exhibits her work in solo and nationally selected contemporary art shows, with her most recent series of artworks exhibited in a solo show “Feathers, Fish, Fur and Flowers” at Grafton Regional Art Gallery.

At the workshop we developed confidence with using colour by learning how to mix the colour you wanted every time, using the double primary mixing system. The colour wheel and the most commonly used colour schemes will be gradually introduced, with the aim of developing a strong foundation in the understanding and use of colour. Experience was gained through practical hands on sessions using coloured paper and paint. This workshop was coordinated with the Brigalow Arts Festival here in Biloela this week.

Topics covered during the workshop:
• Introduction to the colour bias wheel
• Gouache, how to mix and apply colour
• Values/monochromatic colour scheme
• Mixing tints/tones and shades
• Colour matching
• Value exercises
• Introduction to complementary colour scheme
• Mixing complementary pairs
• Introduction to analogous/split complementary colour schemes
• Mixing exercises using these schemes

"A Mental Picture" is the title of a collection of works by photographer Carly Burnham.
I met Carly at the Blueprint for the Bush, Rural Women's Forum, held in Roma recently. The theme of the forum was " Liveability - A woman's perspective", and from Carly's perspective, she wants to make the bush a more liveable place for people with mental illness.Carly lives in Monto on a cattle property.
She has lived closely with schizophrenia and is inspired by the resilience of so many people affected by mental illness.Through her photography, Carly wants to de-stigmatize and re-brand mental illness.I found her photos profoundly touching. Every photo has a story. The black and white medium is extremely evocative.
Twenty shades of grey, from white to pure black, make you really think about the subject matter, the mood and the story. The composition of the portraits is superb, and the energy and the hope of the children seem to imply freedom even in a dark world.Carly's subjects are affected by a range of mental disorders: schizophrenia, 1 in 100 suffer from delusions, hallucinations and paranoia associated with this condition. But Carly says with medication, people can lead a normal life following episodes.Other disorders include bipolar, general anxiety disorder, post-natal depression, obsessive compulsive disorder and depression. Carly says with support, understanding and treatment, mental illness can be managed.

What A Great Workshop with Jenni Kelly !!!!!

26th ~ 28th September, 2008
"Funastic Acrylics"

Great group of ladies to spend 3 days with. Jenni, our tutor-LHS (orange shirt)

Enjoying Wine & Nibblies one afternoon together.

Funastic Acrylics ~ This workshop was fantastic with Jenni Kelly who introduced fellow artists to some very creative ideas with acrylics. We learnt to scrape, spray, fling, throw, roll and glaze PAINT, in other words "PLAY WITH ACRYLICS”, and leave the workshop with a greater understanding of acrylics and a new found confidence. The work was very impressionistic to abstract - Fun and Exciting.

My 1st workshop piece ~ (unfinished in the photo) abstract background with the sunflowers put in with a palette knife. I will post a photo later. Really enjoyed this piece :)

2nd piece - "Water Lillies" photo is unfinished, I will post the fineished artwork photo later.

My 3rd piece - "Poppies" (not sure why I went with the purple, it's unfinished)

Week Away as Camp Parent ....

The week away was wonderful with whales just off Hervey Bay, dolphins & turtles all over the place. I got to feed "Greg the Groper" at Reefworld in Hervey Bay, one huge fish.

When we saw the whales in Hervey Bay, there was about 7 pods & there was 3 babies in those groups. Huge days & packed with lots of adventures for everyone. Went out in a glass bottom boat & had lunch on a island off Hervey Bay.
Went to Bundaberg and cruised down the Burnett River on the Ruby Belle...lots of history there.

Then went to the Bundy Ginger Beer Barrel. The ladies there were really friendly and the taste testing was really good too. (There are lots of different flavours). Lots of interactive resources for the kids to have a history lesson at the same time have fun. Game of Ten Pin bowling, I fell over playing (flat on my back) & got a strike at the same time. No one gave me CPR -just laughed at me.

Friday we were at Lady Musgrave Island, this place was excellent.
Just beautiful... So blue....blue....blue the colour and the weather was awesome.
Kids were great, I really enjoyed the sites & experiencing it all with my daughter Monique :)
